Bachelor of ArtsOverview Description: By studying a Bachelor of Arts you will gain valuable skills in written and verbal communication and the use of modern communication technologies. You will learn to seek out information, critically evaluate and analyse evidence, and plan solutions to problems in a logical and organized manner. As a Bachelor of Arts graduate you will also have an insight into the history, politics and culture of Australia and other nations and an understanding of contemporary issues facing our society. The Bachelor of Arts is the most widely known university degree. It is recognised by employers as providing a broad education and producing graduates with the communication, research, analytical and problem solving skills that are essential in today's workforce. A Bachelor of Arts provides you with the flexibility to choose subjects according to your career aspirations. You can choose to specialise (major) in one or two of the following areas*: Anthropology; Archaeology (restricted subject offerings in Cairns); Communication; Economics (Townsville only); English Literature; Environmental Studies; French; German (Townsville only) Geography; History; Human Services; Indigenous Australian Studies; Japanese; Mathematics; Political Science; Psychology; Sociology and Theatre. * Subjects in Cinema are also available
o Credit points: Represent the combined value of individual subjects in a degree. One subject usually constitutes three credit points.

Prospective students should contact the University to confirm admission requirements and the availability of courses. All Arts students study a broad range of subjects in first year (Level 1), exploring new areas and ideas, and then specialise more in Level 2 and Level 3. The majority of subjects taken in the degree will be from the arts and social sciences, but students can choose electives from other areas including, for example, business, law, music, visual arts, science or information technology. This is a flexible course and applicants will benefit from speaking to a JCU academic adviser before enrolling. Advisers can help with designing a course structure to match your interests and career aspirations. Honours High achieving students may qualify for entry into the Honours program and a further year of intensive study and research. Postgraduate programs to Masters and Doctoral level are also available at JCU. Career Opportunities There are many career options available to arts graduates in business, government, the community, the arts, and as private consultants. For example, JCU arts graduates work as: creative directors, political advisers, teachers, public relations officers, managers, university lecturers, advertising executives, editors, museum curators, researchers, arts administrators, community workers, union organisers and journalists.
