Overview

Description:
 This course explores comparative government and politics (the study of political institutions, processes and cultures in different countries), public policy (the exploration of the policy processes and outcomes) and international relations (the analysis of relations between countries).

The program explores international affairs from political, historical, economic and legal perspectives, and examines complex interactions between the domestic and international affairs of nations.

Political scientists are at the forefront of analysing and providing strategic advice on domestic and international affairs and policy. An understanding of political systems and government policies is essential to anyone interested in a career in government or international diplomacy and can be useful for a range of careers in the community and private sector.

Honours

An Honours program is available for those students who demonstrate high academic performance. Honours consists of an extra year of study and the development of a personal research project and thesis. An Honours degree is usually essential for entry to research higher degrees. The Faculty also offers a wide range of postgraduate study opportunities.

Graduates can pursue careers in local, state and government agencies, foreign affairs, teaching, aid and development agencies and community organizations. Career opportunities also exist in the private sector, trade unions and other lobby groups where graduates with a thorough knowledge of political systems and processes are employed to provide Year: 2008 strategic advice on government policy.
