Description:
 JCU's Bachelor of Arts (Japanese) is designed to give students a deeper understanding of Japan, its language, culture and history through a Bachelor of Arts framework. Language graduates gain from a wide variety of employment opportunities in business or government, both in Australia and overseas.

The Bachelor of Arts is a flexible degree that enables you to tailor a study program to suit your interests and equip you for a broad variety of career options.

The Bachelor of Arts (Japanese) is available in different streams depending on prior experience. The 'Foundation Stream A' is suitable to students without any previous knowledge of languages while the 'Post Foundation Stream B' suits those with more experience.

'Post Year 12 Stream' is for those who have already completed study of Japanese at senior level and can undertake more advanced subjects. Students can also choose to select subjects from a wide range of other disciplines such as English, social sciences, history and journalism.

Honours

An Honours program is available for those students who demonstrate high academic performance. Honours consists of an extra year of study and the development of a personal research project and thesis. An Honours degree is usually essential for entry to research higher degrees. The Faculty also offers a wide range of postgraduate study opportunities.

The Bachelor of Arts is recognised by employers as providing a broad education that produces graduates with the communication, research, analytical and problem-solving skills that are essential in today's workforce.

Graduates find employment in public, private and not-for-profit sectors, in Australia and overseas, in areas such as trade, journalism, law, foreign policy and analysis, travel and tourism, politics, research and teaching (secondary, tertiary and LOTE or TESOL).

Practical Experience

Language students receive a large amount of practical reading, writing and listening experience with the aid of highly qualified foreign language experts. Teaching is undertaken through lectures, tutorials, seminars, practicals and language laboratory sessions, and utilises a wide range of audio-visual resources.
