Outline This course will develop and foster an understanding and knowledge of other cultures, societies and philosophies. It will encourage students to explore the way geographical, cultural, historical, ideological and social factors impact on, and are related to national and international contexts. Studies in globalisation, social science, history, and working in cross-cultural environments will be featured. Career Opportunities Upon completion of this course, you will be qualified to seek employment in international organisations, government agencies, world governing bodies, Australian multicultural and foreign affair organisations and service providers. Graduates may also have opportunities to work overseas. RPL and Credit Transfer International students wishing to apply for RPL and Credit Transfer are required to provide syllabus of previous study undertaken at time of applying for course. Not all courses offer RPL and Credit Transfer. Contact the International Student Programs office at international@ballarat.edu.au Objectives Successful completion of this course will give you the foundation, knowledge and skills to: - Understand global issues and possess skills in dealing with cross-cultural matters - Demonstrate knowledge of other cultures, societies and philosophies - Explore the way geographical, cultural, historical, ideological and social factors impact on, and are related to, national and international contexts - Understand and appreciate alternative interpretations of events, cultures and philosophies Requirements In order to be awarded this degree, you must satisfactorily complete a total of 360 credit points: - 30 credit points in three core units of the International Studies (Asia in Focus, The International Arena and Australia and the Asia Pacific in the 20th Century) - 120 credit points in International Studies (e.g., Asian Philosophies, The Western Tradition and the Contemporary World, Japan: Economy and Society, Going Global: Making Sense of Globalization, The Global Community and Mobile Citizens, Me Them and Us - Managing Diversity in Context) - 90 credit points from units in the following areas: Japanese, Indigenous Studies, Film, Literature, Social Inquiry, Philosophy, Psychology. - 60 credit points taken from other units offered within the School - 60 credit points of approved elective units.
