Bachelor of Arts (History)Overview Description: Historians examine how people in the past thought, what their motivations might have been and what the consequences of their actions were. They study past social and cultural conditions, along with political and economic events, to gain a special kind of knowledge about humanity. History graduates develop the skills and insights needed for careers demanding high levels of research and skillful communication. Specialisations are offered in Australian, Pacific, and World History.
o Credit points: Represent the combined value of individual subjects in a degree. One subject usually constitutes three credit points. ^ Not all subjects are available at both campuses.

Honours An Honours program is available for those students who demonstrate high academic performance. Honours consists of an extra year of study and the development of a personal research project and thesis. An Honours degree is usually essential for entry to research higher degrees. The Faculty also offers a wide range of postgraduate study opportunities. Career Opportunities The Bachelor of Arts is recognised by employers as providing a broad education that produces graduates with the communication, research, analytical and problem-solving skills that are essential in today's workforce. Arts graduates with a major in history have skills that are highly valued in government, education, and research organisations and careers where special areas of interest must be analysed and publicly presented: museums and archives (various subject areas) government policy, practice and law publishing journalism teaching Professional Recognition Graduates can apply for membership of the Historians Professional Association (Qld) Inc., or its equivalent in other states.
