Description:
 In a competitive business world it pays to have more than one skill set and a joint degree can provide you with extra knowledge and resources to help you get the job you want. Joint degrees allow students to complete two degrees at the same time over a four to five year timeframe. These degrees allow students to specialise in a range of disciplines and study areas related to business.

In the Business component students are able to complete one of he following Bachelor of Business majors: Economics, Regional Development (TSV), Hospitality Management (CNS), Human Resource Management, International Business (CNS), Management and Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Sports and Events Management (TSV), and Tourism Management. It is recommended that if students are contemplating a business major they should enrol in the major before undertaking level 2 studies.

12 credit points of level 1 subjects chosen from the Master Schedule in accordance with the Bachelor of Arts.


YEAR 2

6 credit points selected from Level 2 subjects as specified in the Business major.

3 credit points selected from Level 2 subjects with a prefix of BU or BX indicated in Schedule A or B as shown in the Bachelor of Business.

Plus

3 credit points of level 1 subjects chosen from the Master Schedule in accordance with the Bachelor of Arts.

9 credit points of level 2 subjects chosen from the Master Schedule in accordance with the Bachelor of Arts.

3 credit points selected from Level 2 subjects with a prefix of BU or BX.


YEARS 3 & 4

12 credit points selected from Level 3 subjects as specified in the Business major.

3 credit points selected from Level 3 subjects as specified in the Business major.

Plus

3 credit points selected from Level 2 subjects with a prefix of BU or BX.

3 credit points of level 2 subjects chosen from the Master Schedule in accordance with the Bachelor of Arts.

6 credit points of elective subjects from Level 2 or 3.

18 credit points of Level 3 subjects chosen from the Master Schedule in accordance with the Bachelor of Arts.

Majors

Students may select at least one major from those approved by the School of Business.

Single major - (i) consists of a prescribed sequence of at least 18 credit points in a discipline (ii) including at least 6 credit points of Level 2 subjects and at least 6 credit points of Level 3 subjects

Double major - consists of two sequences of units following the requirements for a single major.

When completing a joint degree which includes Arts, you must select an Arts major for that degree. An Arts major is a sequence of 27 credit points of study over three year levels in one discipline, normally with at least six credit points at level 1, nine credit points at level 2 and twelve credit points at level 3. You must then choose other elective subjects at the appropriate year to make up the minimum 45 credit points towards the Arts component of the joint degree. Students should refer to the Faculty of Arts, Education and Social Sciences Subject Information Booklet, for the core subjects required for their selected Major. The Master Schedule of subjects should be consulted when choosing the appropriate year level elective subjects. Major discipline areas in Arts are as follows:

Honours

An Honours program is available for those students who demonstrate high academic performance. Honours consists of an extra year of study and the development of a personal research project and thesis. An Honours degree is usually essential for entry to research higher degrees. JCU's School of Business also offers a wide range of postgraduate study opportunities and has an active research program.
