Bachelor of Arts (Archaeology)Overview Description: The Bachelor of Arts is a flexible degree that enables you to tailor a study program to suit your interests and equip you for a broad variety of career options. The BA is recognised by employers as providing a broad education that produces graduates with the communication, research, analytical and problem-solving skills that are essential in today's workforce.
o Credit points: Represent the combined value of individual subjects in a degree. One subject usually constitutes three credit points.

Honours consists of an extra year of study and the development of a personal research project and thesis. An Honours degree is usually essential for entry to research higher degrees. The Faculty also offers a wide range of postgraduate study opportunities. Career Opportunities Arts graduates with a major in archaeology pursue careers in organisations such as universities (as teachers and/or researchers), museums and interpretive centres, forensic science laboratories, and government departments, local councils and communities charged with heritage protection and management. Archaeologists also work as consultants and advisers on specific projects or policies. Practical Experience A priority in teaching archaeology at JCU is to provide students with a wide range of skills and experience. This includes (where possible) participation in site visits and fieldwork projects. Students benefit from the fact that the School works closely with the Museum of Tropical Queensland, the Australian Heritage Commission and the Heritage branch of the Environmental Protection Agency in archaeological research and training.
