Bachelor of Arts (Acting)Duration (International) 3 years Assessment (Internat.) This will be in the form of classwork, presentations, permances, essay, journal and written appraisals. Outline The Bachelor of Arts (Acting) course offers focused theatre study, allowing you to develop skills and gain the techniques needed to become a professional actor. Classes are conducted by respected artists and teachers, ensuring that the perspective you gain as an emerging performer is relevant, rigorous and contemporary. The course is underpinned by a philosophy of blending practice with theory, and incorporates workshops, rehearsal and research. Subjects include Voice, Movement, Acting (theatre and film), Professional Practice, Performance Studio, and Critical Studies.
Career Opportunities Past graduates have found work in the performing arts industry, playing roles in film, theatre and television; developing self-generated work; voice-over and corporate video; improvisation; and theatre in the community. Teaching is also an option for graduates; however, to pursue a career in teaching, you may be required to undertake a minor sequence in Humanities, delivered through the School of Behavioural and Social Sciences and Humanities, Mt Helen Campus. RPL and Credit Transfer International students wishing to apply for RPL and Credit Transfer are required to provide syllabus of previous study undertaken at time of applying for course. Not all courses offer RPL and Credit Transfer. Contact the International Student Programs office at international@ballarat.edu.au Objectives Successful completion of this course will enable you to emerge as a performer with the knowledge and skills to: - Demonstrate specific acting skills on stage or screen - Demonstrate flexibility and range in vocal skills - Demonstrate flexibility and range in movement skills - Understand the performing arts heritage - Synthesise performance skills, creative processes, production and management skills - Display a sensitivity to the needs and reactions of other theatre workers and collaborators - Research and contribute to the creation of characters and the collaborative process of performance-making Requirements Year 1 - six core units and two electives over two teaching periods. Year 2 - six core units and two electives over two teaching periods. Year 3 - five core units over two teaching periods in year three.
