Outline 

The Bachelor of Applied Computing will provide you with the necessary skills, knowledge and values to be successful in a variety of computing areas. In particular, you will graduate with very strong programming skills. It will also enable you to select an area of specialisation that may be continued at a postgraduate level.
 
Career Opportunities 

Completion of this course will provide you with a variety of career opportunities in small, medium and large business and government. The flexibility of this program enables you to determine the focus, and as such, the career path that you follow. Possible career paths include software engineering, systems analysis, programming, web development, project management, consultancy, and many others.
 
RPL and Credit Transfer 

International students wishing to apply for RPL and Credit Transfer are required to provide syllabus of previous study undertaken at time of applying for course. Not all courses offer RPL and Credit Transfer. Contact the International Student Programs office at international@ballarat.edu.au
 
Objectives 

Successful completion of this course will give you the foundation, knowledge and skills to:
- Understand, both conceptually and practically, computing technologies and their application to a diverse range of industrial and commercial problems
- Demonstrate a sound conceptual framework in computing technologies in order to apply and integrate new developments in these technologies
- Demonstrate a high level of industrial relevance and practical application of computing knowledge and techniques
- Support your professional development and lifelong learning by having completed a range of non-computing disciplines
- Move into postgraduate study in computing or mathematics
- Display a professional approach to computing, including an appreciation of the ethics and social implications of the use of computers in society
- Communicate and cooperate with others and work within and contribute to a team environment
 
Requirements 

The course is based on a number of core units that cover the fundamentals of computing, such as operating systems, procedural and object-orientated programming, multimedia, databases, software engineering and algorithms. A feature of this course is the ability for you to design it according to your likes, dislikes and preferences; half of the course is made up of your choice of units. These electives may be chosen from the major areas of computing and mathematics, as well as from areas such as arts, business, management, psychology, sports science and statistics.

 

International students must meet the following basic entry requirements (see below):

  • Academic entry requirements
  • English language entry requirements
  • At least 18 years of age at the time of the student’s proposed commencement of studies at the university
