Associate Degree in Legal Studies

About the Course
This course is designed to enable students to acquire a broad understanding of the process of law in our society as well as gaining a range of legal and practical skills. It caters for two groups of students, those who have a general interest in legal issues without wishing to complete a full law degree and those who wish to gauge their interest in legal studies and later seek to undertake a full law degree program.

Students successfully completing this program are eligible for entry into the Bachelor of Laws program with significant advanced standing. This course is offered both internally and externally. External students have on-line access to audiotapes of all lectures, as well as on-line tutorial assistance. The external program enables students to complete the course from anywhere in the world.

Course Structure
The course is comprised of two Common units, 90 credit points of Law Core units, 20 credit points of Law Specialist Electives and 30 credit points of general electives. The general electives may be chosen from any law unit not already completed.

A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 160 credit points.

Of the total 160 credit points:
-Not more than 20 credit points shall be included with a grade of "PT" or "PC" or "PS"

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course may seek career opportunities in a range of administrative, secretarial or paralegal employments in government, corporate and private legal environments. Further training and/or work experience is likely to be required for particular occupations.
