Certificate III of AccountingThis program provides students with the practical accounting skills required to gain employment as book keepers, account clerks or assistant accountants. Students learn to process journal entries, payroll, tax returns, corporate financial reports as well as develop and use complex spreadsheets and conduct internal audits.

General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites Entry into the Certificate IV requires the equivalent of Australian Year 12 with passes in English or completion of the Cert III. The Cert III requires the equivalent of Australian Year 10 with passes in English. What You'll Learn in Each Course The Certificate III provides students with the practical skills and knowledge to record and create summaries of the financial transactions of a business or other organisation. Students learn skills that enable them to process journal entries, payroll and bank receipts, prepare, process and maintain financial records, prepare financial reports and use business equipment. The Certificate IV provides the practical skills and knowledge to record and create summaries of the financial transactions of a business or other organisation for management purposes. Students learn both manual and computerised accounting to undertake duties such as completing a business activity statement and other tax requirements, operational reporting, preparation of budgets, classifying, recording and reporting. The Diploma provides the practical skills and knowledge to record and create manual and computerised summaries of the financial transactions of a business or other organisation. Students learn skills to produce and analyse financial reports and prepare tax returns and also how to manage a small team and develop business plans. The Advanced Diploma further develops the practical skills and knowledge in accounting. Students learn skills in complex tax returns and lodgements, complex corporate financial reports and corporate governance activities. They also learn to develop and use complex spreadsheets and conduct internal audits as well as how to develop an operational business plan or implement tax plans and evaluate tax compliance. Career Outcomes Depending on the stage of completion, graduates can get jobs as a bookkeeper, payroll, cost and accounts clerk, office administrator, assistant accountant or qualified accountant. Further Study & University Options Graduates of the Advanced Diploma at Challenger TAFE (Fremantle) can enter the Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) or Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) at Notre Dame University with credit of up to 12 months. They can also enter the Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) or Bachelor of Commerce (Professional Accounting) at Murdoch University and receive credit of up to 18 months (12 months if entering Professional Accounting). Graduates of the Advanced Diploma at West Coast TAFE (Joondalup) can enter into a single major stream in the Bachelor of Business or the Bachelor of Business (Hospitality, Wine Tourism and Regional Enterprise) at Edith Cowan University (ECU) with credit of up to 10 unit exemptions. Graduates of other Colleges may be able to continue in further studies at university in related subjects. Please contact your specific university of interest for more details on entry.
